I. Diamond Shapes

Round. The most popular and diamond shape available today, and typically gives more flexibility in terms of balancing cut, color, and clarity - while still getting the brilliance you want. Princess. It’s beautiful brilliance and unique cut makes it a favorite for engagement rings.
earrings The princess has pointed corners and is traditionally square in shape. Emerald. What makes this shape different is its pavilion, which is cut with rectangular facets to create a unique optical appearance. This shape highlights the clarity of a diamond. Asscher. This unique shape is nearly identical to the emerald-cut, except that it is square. Also, it has a pavilion that is cut with rectangular facets in the same style as the emerald-cut. Oval. An oval diamond has brilliance that's similar to a round diamond. Oval diamonds are also very popular and their length can accentuate long, slender fingers. Radiant. Trimmed corners are the signature of this diamond, and they help make the radiant-cut a popular and versatile choice for jewelry. A radiant-cut looks equally beautiful set with either baguette or round side-diamonds.

Pear. This is also called a teardrop for its single point and rounded end. If you choose an elongated pear shape, the length of the diamond creates a subtle slimming effect on the fingers. Cushion. Cushion-cut diamonds have rounded corners and larger facets to increase their brilliance. Cushion-cut diamonds are available in shapes ranging from square to rectangular.

II. The 4 C's Established by the International Gemological Institute

Cut. How a diamond has been cut, polished, and to what proportions and symmetry, are of utmost importance, as these factors determine the life, brilliance and dispersion of the diamond.

Color. Diamonds vary in shade from colorless to yellow, brown, or gray. Colors range from D, or colorless, which is the most sought-after to Z, which is the least desirable.

Clarity. This is determined using a microscope under 10 x magnification by experienced eyes of gemologists.

Slightly Included: SI1 - 2 Noticeable inclusions that are easy to see.

Included: I1, I2 and I3: Inclusions that are obvious and can be easily seen face-up with the unaided eye.
Carat. The weight of a diamond is measured in carats. A carat is 0.2 grams and there are 100 points (or 200 milligrams) per carat. With an accuracy of 1/100,000 ct., IGI scales provide a highly precise diamond weight that is stated on the Diamond Report to two decimal points.

III. Settings

Platinum.A rare, natural white metal known for strength and purity, and it is naturally hypoallergenic. When platinum scratches there is very little metal lost, so it will withstand years of wear.

Yellow Gold and White Gold. This naturally yellow metal gets combined with different metal alloys for added strength -- it is usually 70- to 75-percent pure. The result is jewelry available in a rainbow of colors, including white, green, and pink. Yellow gold is turned into white gold when the surface is plated with rhodium. It's widely available and is less expensive than some other metal options, and the added alloys allow you to personalize your hue.

Rose Gold. This pink-tinted metal is gold with an added copper alloy. The more copper alloy in the metal, the deeper the rosy tones will be. While white gold represents friendship and yellow gold means fidelity, rose gold represents love. It is durable and has a look that's pleasing against many skin tones. Palladium. A lustrous silver-white metal, this natural ore is also used as an alloy in white gold. Similar to platinum, palladium won't tarnish, is very flexible, and is hypoallergenic, and the lower density makes it less costly.
